Detroit & Chicago TMJ Pain Relief

headache 300x180 TMD TreatmentFrom Comfort Dental Spa in Farmington Hills, MI, Dr. Askari offers diverse treatments options for patients who suffer with TMJ disorders. Patients come to her from across the state of Michigan and beyond — many from Detroit and Chicago — because of her precise, effective, non-invasive treatment options. To relieve facial tension, stress, and strain, she employs four different types of massage therapy. These include manual massage, micro current nerve stimulation (TENS), ultrasound massage, and cold laser muscle treatments. These massage methods address the muscle memory problems associated with TMJ disorder and relieve TMD pain associated with misaligned joints. Once muscles are relaxed, ideal joint positioning may be identified.

For occusal (bite) dysfunctions that result from TMJ disorder, Dr. Askari uses computer imaging to monitor misaligned bite problems. Her computer software monitors muscle activity with electromyogram (EMG) technology. Additionally, she uses technology to record and slow down the biting motions so that she can show patients precisely where and when their temporomandibular joints are misaligned.

An oral splint, orthodontics, and/or restoring worn molars can relieve TMJ pain and stressed muscles. These TMD treatments are effective only when we first understand the ideal position for the temporomandibular joints. The goal of splint, orthodontic, or restorative treatment is to permanently restore proper positioning of the TMJs. This should eliminate associated problems, like clenching and grinding (bruxism), as well as symptoms, which may include but are not limited to headaches, migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, earaches, jaw popping, and/or back, neck, and shoulder pain.

Dr. Askari focuses, in all aspects of her practice, on patient education. She works hard to explain the root causes of TMJ dysfunction and address the disorder properly, to limit the likelihood of recurrence and to ease her patients’ discomfort.
